The mantra from the left, echoed endlessly through Democratic circles and mainstream media, is that Donald Trump poses a “threat to democracy.” This narrative is rooted in allegations of election interference, legal battles, and his refusal to accept the 2020 election results. Yet, as this cry is shouted from every corner, something much more insidious is happening right under our noses, perpetrated not by Trump, but by the Democratic establishment itself.
The 2024 Democratic candidate for President was not chosen by voters. No primary votes were cast in their favor. Instead, this individual was thrust upon the American public by a series of backroom decisions, bypassing the democratic process altogether. In essence, they were handed the nomination without the people’s say, forced upon the electorate as the only option from the Democratic side.
This, more than anything Trump has done, represents a direct threat to democracy. How can a system be considered democratic when the people are denied a choice? When one of the two major political parties bypasses its own process, ignores the will of its base, and appoints a candidate without the input of the American voter?
Ironically, the very accusation that Democrats level against Trump—that he disregards democracy—is the very sin they are committing themselves. The argument that Trump is a “danger” because of his populism, his rhetoric, or his refusal to go quietly, is now overshadowed by the Democratic leadership’s brazen disregard for their own voters. They have chosen to subvert the primary process in favor of anointed leadership, mirroring the actions of autocratic regimes that pick leaders without public consent.
Where is the outcry about this? Where are the endless media analyses decrying the erosion of the democratic process within the Democratic Party itself? There are none, because the left is too busy feeding the American public the distraction of Trump as the singular evil, while their own actions rot the very foundation of the democratic principles they claim to defend.
This is not about supporting or condemning Trump. It is about calling out the hypocrisy of those who pretend to champion democracy while simultaneously undermining it. The Democratic establishment has abandoned any pretense of allowing the people a voice, deciding that their chosen candidate is the best, not because the public voted for them, but because the party elites decreed it so.
In any true democracy, the people decide. By ignoring primaries and sidestepping elections, the Democrats have presented us with a candidate who holds no mandate from the voters. They have bypassed the checks and balances of their own system to handpick a candidate, confident that the media will cover their tracks and shift the focus back to Trump.
The real danger to democracy isn’t a former president with a boisterous following; it’s the erosion of the democratic process itself. The American public must wake up to the fact that a political party forcing a candidate down their throats without a single vote cast is the ultimate betrayal of democratic values.
If we truly care about protecting our democracy, we must demand that both parties respect the sanctity of the electoral process. Anything less, and we’re allowing the foundations of our republic to crumble from within.
