A political hit piece is usually part of a cover up or to turn public opinion in an election. For example, the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid for the Steele Dossier a completely fabricated document meant to damage and discredit Donald J. Trump’s chances in the 2016 Presidential election.
