“Captain Cook’s Endeavour” refers to the British Royal Navy research vessel commanded by Captain James Cook during his first voyage of exploration (1768-1771). It was originally a Whitby collier named the Earl of Pembroke, but was purchased and refitted by the Royal Navy, then renamed HMS Endeavour. The Endeavour’s most famous journey involved charting the east coast of Australia and circumnavigating New Zealand.
