Rep. Boebert Takes the Lead in Tight Race for Reelection in Colorado

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) took the lead in her race for reelection on Nov. 10.

Boebert, 35, is now ahead of Democrat Adam Frisch by about 450 votes, according to unofficial results from Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

Boebert, a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump, is seeking a second term.

“Winning!” she said on Twitter after the updated results were announced.

Frisch had been ahead by 64 votes late Wednesday.

“As expected, this thing is coming down to the wire. Thank you for sticking with us! We’re feeling good & going to make sure every valid ballot counts. But we need resources to get the ballots cured, get us through to the end, and defeat Lauren Boebert,” Frisch said before the latest round of results was available.

Frisch, 55, is a businessman and former Aspen City Council member.

Boebert was a prominent Second Amendment activist before taking office, famously challenging former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, a Democrat, on guns during one of O’Rourke’s public appearances. She also used to own a restaurant called Shooters Grill where waitresses would have guns on holsters.

Colorado’s 3rd district is mostly in western Colorado and includes Aspen, Grand Junction, and Telluride.

Colorado is among the states that have been unable to count every ballot within 24 hours of polls closing.

Some ballots still need to be tallied.

Gilbert Ortiz, the Pueblo County clerk and recorder, said Thursday that there are approximately 5,000 mail-in ballots and 1,800 in-person ballots left to be counted. Another 600 absentee ballots could potentially be cured.

Ortiz told The Epoch Times that officials in Pueblo County expect to be finished with the counting by the end of the day.

Lyn Scott, the Otero County clerk, said that officials there still have approximately 100 ballots left to count.

Keeping the seat Boebert holds would help ensure Republicans flip control of the House of Representatives.

As of Thursday midday, Republicans had secured 210 seats to Democrats’ 193. Republicans are up seven seats from their current status.

Many of the Colorado races have already been called but there is one other close race.

Democrat Yadira Caraveo and Republican Barbara Kirkmeyer were separated by under 150 votes in the race to represent Colorado’s 8th Congressional District.

Caraveo had 102,652 votes while Kirkmeyer had 102,518 votes as of the latest count.

Caraveo, 41, is a state representative.

Kirkmeyer, 64, is a state senator.

“With Yadira in the lead and significantly more votes left to be counted in Adams than in Weld, we are confident that once all of the votes have been counted, Yadira Caraveo will be the first Congresswoman from CO-08,” Elana Schrager, campaign manager for Caraveo, said in a statement.

Kirkmeyer has not yet offered comment since the election.

Colorado’s 8th district is a new district that is the result of Colorado gaining a significant population in the 2020 census.
