Argentine singer and model Fede Dorcaz was fatally shot by armed motorcyclists on Oct. 9 in what appeared to be a “direct attack” in Mexico City, the Mexico City Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) said in a statement.
“Personnel from #SSC learned of a man who lost his life, due to gunshot wounds, apparently due to a direct attack, on the side of the ring road #Periférico,” read the post on X.
“Video surveillance cameras in the area are now being analyzed to identify the probable perpetrators, who, according to initial reports, were traveling on two motorcycles.”
According to El Universal, a major Mexican newspaper, Dorcaz, 29, was in the capital city preparing for his upcoming appearance on the reality show “Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy,” the Mexican version of “Dancing With the Stars.”
Dorcaz was reportedly traveling in an SUV after wrapping up rehearsals, when he was intercepted by two armed men who allegedly followed him for some time before the shooting.
No arrests have been made. However, the SSC said they are conducting a joint investigation with the Public Prosecutor’s Office and corresponding forensic services have been notified.
Dorcaz had lived in Mexico for two years and the reality show was slated to be his first major project in the country, and an effort to make his mark in the international entertainment industry.
“The HOY family mourns the sensitive passing of our friend and colleague, Fede Dorcaz,” the broadcaster wrote in a tribute. “We join the pain that bears his entire family, his parents, and his girlfriend Mariana Avila.”
“Fede leaves a big void in our team. His memory and passion will continue to inspire us forever. Rest in Peace Fede Dorcaz.”
Dorcaz’s girlfriend and popular YouTube personality, Mariana Ávila, who was also set to be his partner on the dance show, wrote a tribute on social media following his death.
“You will always be my favorite person in the whole world,” she wrote on X. “I love you, I love you, I love you and I will always love you.”
“I don’t want to be one more day without you, baby,” she continued in a separate post. “I’m waiting for your goodnight message, love please come back, you know I was never so strong without you by my side.”
Dorcaz was born in Argentina, before moving to Spain with his family at aged 13. He began his career in modeling and eventually turned to pop music.
In 2024, he released his debut album, “Instinto,” and is best known for his songs “No Eres Tú” and “Cara Bonita.”
