FBI Releases New Images of Potential Suspect in Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping

The FBI on Feb. 10 released new images and videos showing a person outside the home of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared the videos and still images on social media, showing a masked individual.

“Over the last eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been working closely with our private sector partners to continue to recover any images or video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost, corrupted, or inaccessible due to a variety of factors—including the removal of recording devices. The video was recovered from residual data located in backend systems,” Patel wrote.

“Working with our partners—as of this morning, law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

One 27-second video, labeled as from a Nest camera, shows the person approaching the front door of Nancy Guthrie’s residence and moving their hand around close to the camera.

People with information in the case are being directed to contact the FBI.

Savannah Guthrie shared the pictures on Instagram. “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home,” she said.

“I will reiterate that the prayers of this entire White House are with Savannah and her family at this time, and we hope this person is found and that her mother is brought home safely,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters in Washington.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen on the evening of Jan. 31. Relatives say she went to the residence of another daughter for dinner before being driven back home. Officials say her garage door opened around 9:48 p.m. and closed about two minutes later.

Early the following day, her doorbell camera was disconnected. At 2:12 a.m., the camera detected movement. About 15 minutes later, a heart pacemaker application was removed from her phone.

When Nancy Guthrie failed to appear at church later that day, her family reported her missing.

Nancy Guthrie is considered to be a vulnerable adult because she has trouble walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition.

The FBI said on Feb. 5 it was working with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to solve the case and announced a $50,000 reward for information that leads to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

Authorities say that all of Nancy Guthrie’s personal belongings, including her wallet and vehicle, were found at her home. They say that Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped or otherwise taken against her will. Ransom notes purportedly demanded millions of dollars.

Savannah Guthrie said in a video released on social media on Feb. 7 that the Guthrie family was ready to pay to facilitate Nancy Guthrie’s safe return.

“We received your message. … This is the only way we will have peace,” she said. “This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”

Officials, though, said that they were not aware of communication between the Guthrie family and any kidnappers.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said on Tuesday, after the FBI released the new images, that it has no planned press conferences or interviews scheduled for Feb. 10.
