‘A Great Night!’: Trump Celebrates Primary Wins in Nevada, North Dakota, South Carolina

Former President Donald Trump was excited to see many political candidates he endorsed have secured victory in recent primary races.

“Every single endorsed by Trump candidate won last night, by big margins, with the exception of one very long shot who did FAR better than anticipated against an incumbent,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social on June 15.

He added, “The ‘Impeacher’ was ousted without even a runoff. A GREAT night!”

On Tuesday, in primaries in Nevada, South Carolina, and North Dakota, many candidates that Trump supported secured a victory. A defeat occurred in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District race, when Trump-endorsed Katie Arrington lost to incumbent Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.).

In a separate post, Trump said Arrington “was a long shot” at winning the race, but she “ran a great race and way over performed.” Trump added, “Congrats to Nancy Mace, who should easily be able to defeat her Democrat opponent!”

State Rep. Russell Fry defeated Rep. Tom Rice (R-S.C.) in South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District. Rice was one of 10 GOP House members who voted to impeach Trump for allegedly inciting the Capitol breach on Jan. 6, 2021.

On Fry’s victory, Trump wrote in another post, “The biggest News of the evening so far is that Russell Fry beat Impeach Master Tom Rice with a Vote of more than 51%, therefore winning outright with no need for a run-off.”

Speaking to supporters following his victory, Fry said: “Today, Donald Trump won.”

Other victories included incumbent Gov. Henry McMaster, who received more than 83 percent of the vote in South Carolina’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

William Timmons (R-S.C.) won with nearly 53 percent of the vote. He will represent South Carolina’s 4th Congressional District in the November elections.

Alan Wilson, incumbent South Carolina Attorney General, won the Republican primary and is all but assured of winning the November election since no Democrats are running against him.

Three incumbent lawmakers won unopposed—Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), Rep. Jose Wilson (R-S.C.), and Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.).

In Nevada, Trump-endorsed Senate candidate Adam Laxalt won with 56.1 percent of the vote. He will face off against incumbent Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) in the November elections.

Also in Nevada, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo defeated other candidates with 38.4 percent of the vote. He will be looking to unseat democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak.

Mike Pompeo, former secretary of state under the Trump administration, took to Twitter to congratulate both Lombardo and Laxalt for their primary wins.

“The future for Nevada is bright with these two conservative leaders running for Governor and Senate!” Pompeo wrote.

In North Dakota, incumbent democratic Sen. John Hoeven won with 78 percent of the vote. In the state’s House race, Rep. Kelly Armstrong (R-N.D.) won unopposed.

Trump has had a strong endorsement record so far this year. According to Ballotpedia, Trump has a 94 percent success rate as of June 15, as 119 candidates he endorsed have won and eight have lost.

Other Trump-endorsed candidates that have won recently include House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem.
