U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked in the early hours of Oct. 28 during a home invasion, Pelosi’s office says.
A person broke into the Pelosi home in San Francisco and “violently assaulted” Paul Pelosi, 82, Nancy Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill said in a statement.
Paul Pelosi was rushed to a hospital, where he is being treated and was expected to make a full recovery.
Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time. She frequently spends time in Washington and other cities as part of her job.
The assailant was taken into custody and police are investigating the motivation for the crimes, according to Hammill.
The San Francisco Police Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill said.
San Francisco, like many U.S. cities, has been dealing with a spike in crime in recent years.
